Shoemaker & Haaland is currently seeking to hire a full time Professional Land Surveyor or LSIT to join our team of engineers and technical specialists. A successful candidate will contribute to the continued growth and success of the business.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be currently registered as a LS, LSIT, or already meet the requirements to take the LSIT exam.
- Strong communication, organization, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred Software Skills: AutoCAD, Civil3D, Faro Scene, Recap and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel out of town for projects and work outside.
- Proficiency in construction staking, and performing ALTA, boundary, and topographic surveys.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Prioritized by Level of Experience)
- Commitment to following safety procedures.
- Prepare field drawings and high-quality notes of each project in the field book.
- Calculate geographic positions from survey data, property lines and other characteristics of terrain.
- Produce and deliver control, boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, as-builts, and construction surveying services.
- Search legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
- Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain survey equipment. Coordinate with equipment vendors as needed. Must be proficient with Trimble robotic total station and GPS equipment.
- Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, map records, and documents relating to surveys.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and deliver exceptional quality surveys that are on time and on budget.
- Coordinate with office staff members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
- Mentor survey staff and train staff in the use of equipment and field survey techniques.
- Assist, train, direct, and supervise field crew and office staff members in the performance of their duties as it relates to surveying.
- Lead and supervise the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and invoices.

- FARO Scanning Certification or willingness to obtain FARO Scanning Certification.
- Associate Degree in Civil Technology or related field.

- Valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel out of town for projects and work outside.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Apply knowledge of materials, hydraulic analysis, utility design, and roadway geometry to project design tasks.
- Ability to work as a team member and independently.
- Ability to research knowledge and techniques that are unfamiliar (Reference manuals, technical resources, etc.)
- Perform calculations, coordinate between different design elements, document designs, and specifications.
- Calculate stormwater runoff, slopes, item quantities, etc.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, clients, and the public, in a clear concise manner both orally and in written documents.
- Travel to client work sites and offices for design reviews, site visits, field verifications, and construction observation.
- Ability to pass screening and background checks for admittance to client sites.
