University of Iowa Chilled Water Plant 2
Iowa City, Iowa
This design-build project consisted of design and construction services in order to increase the capacity of the University of Iowa Cooling Tower 2 Facility. The structural design involved the design of a new steel and concrete superstructure for the expansion. The overall design also included a new concrete containment basin, fan deck, and walls. A 3D laser scan of the existing project area was performed to review the existing facility. Shoemaker & Haaland adapted details based on filed conditions and the constructability in addition to providing as-built structural drawings.
Project Scope: Superstructure Inspection, 3D Existing Facility Scan, Existing Building Retrofit, Foundation Reinforcement, Structure Analysis and Reinforcement, New Superstructure Design, Reinforced Concrete Design for Cooling Tower & Basin, Weekly Project Meetings, Construction Documents, Specifications, Cost Estimating, Construction Staging.
