University of Iowa Power Plant Boiler & Turbine Expansion

This project consisted of design and construction services to expand the capacity of the University of Iowa Main Power Plant facility. The lead mechanical engineering design firm selected Shoemaker & Haaland to provide structural and civil design services including a review of the existing facility foundation and superstructure. In addition, Shoemaker & Haaland reviewed the design of building reinforcements, additions, and a new 150’ stack design. The project involved project meetings and site visits throughout the design and construction phases.

This project involved a comprehensive foundation and structural analysis the of building and requiring lateral and axial reinforcements. In addition, Shoemaker & Haaland designed a new 200-ton boiler foundation, maintenance platforms, and a 150’ stack support steel tower.
